I do not ship Johnlock. Here’s why….

*this is not a heartless diss. I hate those. just here me out.

Sherlock Holmes and John Watson are such an important unit in literature and TV because of the bond they share. They are the best of friends, the love each other, they trust the other before anyone else; as the gypsy woman in the first film said, “brothers, not in blood, but in bond.” In fact, there relationship sticks out so much because they share this wonderful bond, and it isn’t remotely romantic. Sherlock is protective of his friendship with John, and he is jealous of John’s many girlfriends, but not because he wants John in that respect. John is the only man who respects him, and holds him back, and forgives him for his outlook on society. He understand that Sherlock isn’t a psychopath, but an “other”, someone who doesn’t belong in this society, and he sympathizes with him and tries to be patient. That is why Sherlock is so territorial over John, if you were in his situation, would you want to lose the one ally who not only dealt with you, but enjoyed your company? Someone you could be your unadulterated self around?

Also, the idea of a relationship between the two would be completely out of character! John is straight, completely straight, and values his friendship with Sherlock just as I expressed Sherlock values John’s. And while, I don’t think Sherlock is asexual, it is a fact that any form of romantic or sexual relationship doesn’t even come up on his list of priorities. How many times does Sherlock declare his love for his work? It is his only outlet for the hyper-aware, sociopathic mind he has, and does a romantic relationship sound like the sort of thing he would allow to clutter up his “hard-drive”? NO, the closest he ever came to attraction was with Irene Adler, and at least in stories and in Sherlock, that attraction was only towards her merciless intellect and own troubles with society, not towards her as a potential partner.

So yes, I find the goof subtext as hilarious as the next, but the beauty of this relationship is that it is a friendship, nothing more. Few people ever really experience what it feels like to have a BEST friend, but that bond is just as powerful and exhilarating and comforting as these two’s  relationship is described. So, cherish the beauty of their friendship! Because that is just as worthy-if not even more so-of a supportive and inspired fandom as any romantic pairing.

I was standing in line at dairy queen and I saw an elderly lady crying because she didn’t have enough money to pay for her small blizzard, so I bought her a large and helped her out to her car, and she cried and said ” I hope god made someone just for you out in the world so that they can treat you as special as you are” and I am sobbing right now.
